HUTTO — It was the second straight tough 6A-District 12 loss for the Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team as rival Pflugerville Weiss High School used a fourthquarter rally to upend the Hippos in Hutto 52-45.

Hutto got out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, maintained a slight 28-27 advantage at halftime and extended the lead to 40-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Hippos junior Cylin Tate led the way with a team-high 16 points, five rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot against Weiss.

Hutto senior Byron Piper had nine points and two rebounds, while fellow senior Zachary Hicks had eight points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.

This was yet another heartbreaking loss for the Hippos who also fell Jan. 9 in a hardfought 54-51 overtime loss on the road against the Vikings of Bryan High School.

Hutto (10-13 overall, 2-3 district record) under Head Coach Gant Caraway will have another district home game Wednesday at 7 p.m. versus the Panthers of Waco Midway High School.
