WACO — The Hutto High School girls varsity basketball team came up short Wednesday, Jan. 17 as the Lady Hippos fell in 6A-District 12 play to Waco Midway High School 53-38.
The Lady Hippos hung around for the entirety of the first half down just 14-12 at the end of the opening quarter and trailed 24-19 at halftime. However, the host Pantherettes took off in the third quarter as Midway outscored Hutto 19-4 to pull away. Hutto went on a 15-10 run in the fourth quarter but the run in the third quarter was too much to overcome.
The Lady Hippos were led on the night in scoring by the trio of senior Alyssa Batton, senior Charlize Williams and sophomore Victoria Escobedo with seven points apiece.
Hutto (12-17 overall record, 4-3 in district) under Head Coach Samantha Guerrero will return to district action Tuesday, Jan.
23 at home as the Lady Hippos host the Lady Knights of Harker Heights High School.
