Snacks for STAAR

Snacks for STAAR

Students at Taylor Independent School District did not have hunger pains while preparing for the STAAR test.

The Welfare Workers Club, in cooperation with Rick Von Pfeil, provided snacks for students during testing.

The Welfare Workers, known to be the oldest Black female organization in Williamson County was organized by the late Magnolia P. Dickey in 1935, the wife of the late Dr. James Lee Dickey.

The club was organized as an auxiliary to the Colored Chamber of Commerce and to assist Dr. Dickey educating families to become healthier parents and better prepared for themselves, their family and community involvement.

Last year, the club became more involved in education and taking on projects that will motivate and encourage and support parents, students and teachers. The goal is to help create a supportive environment.

“We hope that we can assist not only with STAAR testing involvement but any motivational way we can let the students reach out to us if they need us,” a club representative said.
