Attempting to pass a stolen check bought a Round Rock man a trip to jail.

Taylor Police arrested 24-year-old Cordarrell Hargers Monday in the 900 block of West Fourth Street.

Capt. Don Georgens said officers were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. to a business where Hargers was allegedly attempting to pass a stolen check.

Hargers had allegedly tried to flee on foot through several backyards along West Fifth Street before officers caught up with him. The police arrested him on a charge of evading arrest.

Police found the check Hargers had allegedly attempted to pass had been stolen. At about 7:45 a.m., Monday, police were called to Dave’s Heating & Air Conditioning, 207 Sloan St., Georgens said.

“Someone had broken into the business through a window and had taken some checks,” Georgens said.

He added Hargers has not been charged in connection with the burglary, which remains under investigation.

He commended the police for their work on the case, however.

“The officers did a fantastic job,” he said, tracking Hargers down and looking into where the checks had been stolen from. “The officers did a good job.”

A pre-indictment docket call has been set for 9 a.m,, July 7, with Judicial Officer Ken Anderson at the 277th Judicial District Court.

taylorboy76574 been a racist long or is this your first time? I for one don't give a rats backside what color his skin is (although it clearly matters to the likes of you) the fact that he broke into a business, stole a check then tried to cash it makes him a thug. My comment was meant to point out that he clearly thought he would not be in any real danger of being arrested considering the small town he was visiting during his recent crime spree.

I hope the guy gets the book thrown at him for the theft AND that he has to pay damages
to the business that he broke into.
