Pauline Katherine Kovar

Pauline Katherine Kovar

Pauline Katherine Kovar, 84, of Taylor, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 surrounded by her family who loved her endlessly.

Pauline was born to Victor and Viola David Aug. 22, 1939. Pauline was the oldest of five children, which led to her family depending on her to help take care of the younger children. She grew up working hard around the farm with cooking, picking eggs, feeding pigs, milking cows and harvesting many crops.

Pauline loved to wear flour sack skirts that her mom made, and loved going to dances with her dad. She attended S.S. Cyril – Methodius Catholic School until eighth grade, she then followed her Catholic faith to San Antonio at Sisters of Divine Providence. She finished out her high school career at Granger High School.

Pauline was a devout Catholic. Her faith is who she was. She prayed her Rosary every day and prayed with faithfully for everyone, no matter who it was.

Pauline married the love of her life, Don Kovar, in 1958. Pauline and Don knew each other in their school days, but when Pauline was 18, they ran into each other at a dance at the S.P.J.S.T. Hall and the rest is history.

Pauline and Don loved each other dearly and fully. Their love for one another has been a guiding light for everyone around them. In 1959, they welcomed their first son Steven Donald, then three more boys were added, Robert Curtis, Russell Allen and Patrick Paul. In 1969, their family was complete, finally with a girl, Kari Josepha.

Don and Pauline’s house was a haven for their kids and all their friends. Pauline always made sure that every visitor felt welcomed and had a full stomach when they left. Pauline enjoyed welcoming new families to town through the Welcome Wagon.

Pauline also worked at Dan’s Upholstery, helping clients find the right fabrics and styles. Her next adventure was being the activity director at the S.P.J.S.T. Nursing Home. Having entertained kids for so many years, she was a natural at this role. She loved people and her compassion and tireless efforts became well known.

When the kids got older, Pauline and Don started taking their own adventures with the Road Runner excursions to places like Las Vegas, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Branson, Missouri, Orlando, Florida, Louisville, Kentucky and even to Canada. Pauline says the Road trips were some of her favorite times.

Pauline and Don didn’t know life could get any better until they were blessed with 11 grandkids. She got the most special title then, Granny.

Days at Granny’s were everyone’s favorite memories. Granny’s house was always flourishing with fashion shows, tea parties and playing restaurants with the granddaughters. Her grandsons loved being boys and playing outside, riding the lawnmower and even hammering nails into anything they could find.

The Kovar family loved to spend time playing dominoes and listening to polka music with Granny and Popo. In recent years, Granny and Popo loved to spend time with their six greatgrandkids.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Viola David; siblings, Rita Marburger and Clarence David.
