Carl Schoener, Jr.

Carl Schoener, Jr., 94, of Round Rock, passed away peacefully Sept. 14, 2023.

Carl was born Dec. 20, 1928, in New Bern, to the late Karl Ludwig (Charlie) Schoener and Theresa Emilie Pircher Schoener. He graduated from Taylor High School and then attended Nixon-Clay Business College.

Carl proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the OCC medal for his service in Germany.

Carl married Frankie Mae Pyle Feb. 22, 1955. They lived happily as a family for 40 years, until her passing in 1995.

Carl enjoyed a successful career as a market manager for Safeway Food Stores.

As a retirement hobby, he repaired lawn mowers and prepared Texas barbecues for his family and neighbors. He was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Austin, where he served as an usher and assisted in maintaining the church lawn. Carl was also an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8787.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Frankie. Carl also survived the loss of each of his siblings, Richard, Edna Pasemann, Elnora (PeeWee) Smith and Mildred Hanley. Carl was also preceded in death by two nieces, Margie Robinson and Linda Hanley.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Melissa Mae Schoener; his son, Carl (Gigi) Schoener III; grandsons, Randy (Megan) Schoener and Kevin (Chelsea) Schoener; four great granddaughters, Mallory, Lainey, Emerson and Kennedy; two stepgrandchildren, Garett and Holly Van Hoozer; four nieces and one nephew who knew him as Uncle Jr.; Gladys Volney, Carol Moore, Glenda Jansky, Sharon Naivar and Larry Hanley, as well as numerous other family members and friends.

A service honoring Carl Schoener’s life was held Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Visitation with the family was from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service was at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment followed at Taylor City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Schoener, Randy Schoener, Garett Van Hoozer, Rick Robinson, Jeff Robinson, and Doug Moore.

Carl’s family wishes to thank all of those who have reached out in recent days to show their love and compassion for a life well lived.
