Koonce, Laurence and Matta compete at state meet

This past Friday, May 13, three student track athletes, two from Thrall and one from Granger, competed in the 2022 University Interscholastic League (UIL) state track and field championship meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

At 6 p.m. Friday Thrall’s Avery Koonce lined up in lane one for the class 2A girls 100-meter dash. Koonce, primarily a pole vaulter, placed seventh in the event with a time of 12.48. Koonce also participated at the state meet last year with the Tigerettes.

One hour later, Granger’s Lucas Matta competed in the class 2A boys 400-meter run. Matta lined up in lane nine on the outer edge of the track. Matta placed seventh in the event with a time of 50.78.

The final local track athlete was Thrall freshman Sara Beth Laurence. Laurence, also a cross country state qualifier, lined up in lane eight and placed sixth in the class 2A girls 1600-meter run with a time of 5:35.01.
