Teachers in the Taylor Independent School District will be bringing home a little more money during the 2025-26 school year.
During Monday night's school board meeting, trustees approved a $43.8 million balanced budget that will incorporate compensations plans approved under state House Bill 2.
The district will offer $4,000 per year increases to teachers with three to four years of experience and $8,000 to teachers with five or more years of experience, according to a social-media post about the June 23 session.
The compensation rates mandated by HB2 are for districts such as Taylor with enrollments of less than 5,000 students.
Taylor trustees also approved raises for teachers with two or less years of experience to $1,500 annually.
"I am deeply grateful for the continued support of our board of trustees. They passed a balanced budget and raises for our teachers, a large part of the foundation for all the work we do,” said Superintendent Jennifer-Garcia-Edwardsen in the post. “Our trustees always search for how to best take care of those who take care of our future — the students who come through our doors every day.”
According to the post, the board in July will consider compensation for all non-teaching staff including nurses, librarians, counselors, paraprofessionals, clerical staff, maintenance and operations staff, and the administrative professional team.
More on teacher pay increases can be seen in the June 28-29 edition of the Taylor Press.
