THE CZECH IS IN THE MAIL
Summertime is
over. For parents of school-age children and school employees that means one thing – we’re going back to campus. Since my daughter, Megan, attends school, I’m part of this “we.”
The Coupland and Hutto independent school districts start classes on Tuesday, while Granger, Taylor and Thrall ISDs all start Wednesday. St. Mary’s Catholic School kicks off Wednesday as well.
Each year, the song remains the same – where did the time go?
My mom likes to joke she was nearly tossed out of Walmart for kicking and screaming, “I don’t want to go back to school” in the middle of the store.
Mom is a former educator, so she earned her right to perform such an act.
The Walmart employees would have understood her pain, and some may have joined in the kicking and screaming with her.
Megan will not kick nor scream – albeit she might do some kicks while jumping with joy. She is excited to return to the classroom.
I don’t know if it’s riding the bus, getting out of the house or seeing teachers and friends, but Megan enjoys going to school.
My wife cried on Megan’s first day of learning last year, but Megan was ready to go.
Believe it or not, we’re ready for Wednesday. No, we’re not ready for Megan to leave the house for three hours a day, but we’re ready in the sense that we have her school supplies and clothes accounted for.
As far as going back to school is concerned, look both ways when driving through school zones or bus stops, take lots of first-day pictures, and try not to cry when you drop your kids off.
You’ll see them in the afternoon.
With that being said, it’s back-to-school time.
