COUP FOR COUPLAND
COUPLAND – With the advent of Dynamic Systems Inc., a new school and more houses, growth is coming to Coupland, ready or not, city officials said.
Located on Texas 95 between Taylor and Elgin, Coupland has been minding its own quiet business for many years, but that’s all about to change.
The Austin-based Dynamic Systems Inc. has plants located around the country, but it chose Coupland for its newest factory in order to support nearby Samsung Austin Semiconductor in Taylor.
Both facilities are expected to open in 2026.
“Nine months to a year they think that (Dynamic Systems) will be completed and ready to support Samsung,” said Mayor Russell Schmidt.
While Dynamic Systems primarily provides health care and higher-education facilities with heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing systems, Samsung will be the sole client for the Coupland location.
“They’re building a clean room to manufacture fittings and tubings and things with different applications for Samsung. There can’t be a speck of dust or contamination on any of it,” Schmidt said.
Initially, the factory is expected to hire about 30 employees with plans to expand and add more.
“It’s going to be a good addition to the community. It’s going to bring in money, it’s going to bring in jobs,” Schmidt said.
Dynamic Systems Inc. did not respond to requests for comment, but Schmidt added, “In the long run, any clean industry will be good for (Coupland) and it’s on the outer edge of our city limits. It will be good for our tax base.”
Meanwhile, a new secondary school will open in Coupland in time for the 2026-27 school year.
In May 2023, voters passed a $56 million bond to build a new middle school to house Coupland Independent School District’s growing student population. Currently, pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are housed in one building.
For almost 70 years, Coupland students have been bused to Taylor to attend high school, but with the new school’s construction, that tradition is at an end.
During May’s school board meeting, Coupland ISD Superintendent Earl Parcell suggested expanding the use of the new building for both a middle school and a high school. The last high school in Coupland closed in the mid-1940s.
Parcell proposed the incremental addition of high school students by grade annually and the idea received the overwhelming support of school board members.
In another development, two new subdivisions are planned for the city.
Parcell did not know about them when he proposed the new high school, but timing is everything, officials said.
“One development is for about 190 lots and the other around 120,” Schmidt said.
The larger subdivision recently received state approval for a contained sewer system, according to Schmidt.
The mayor hinted more is still to come.
“
It’s going to bring in money, it’s going to bring in jobs.”
