Investigators probe death of Samsung worker

Investigators probe death of Samsung worker

A third-party contractor working on ventilation and cooling systems died Wednesday at the Samsung Austin Semiconductor campus in Taylor, a company representative said.

Samsung and community emergency responders, including Taylor police and fire departments, arrived quickly and took action, the spokeswoman added.

“Samsung and all on-site parties are cooperating fully with local authorities and regulatory agencies as they conduct a thorough investigation into what happened,” said Michele Glaze, Samsung’s senior director of communications.

The worker’s name has not been released.

Glaze noted out of respect for the family and the integrity of the investigation, the company cannot share additional information at this time.

“Safety is our highest priority, and we are committed to understanding the circumstances surrounding this incident. We will continue to provide support to our employees and the broader workplace community,” Glaze said.

The South Korean tech giant announced in November 2021 a chipmaking foundry with an initial investment of $17 billion was coming to Taylor. Expected to employ 1,500 to 1,800 full-time workers, the plant is preparing to go online this year, officials said.

At different periods of construction, thousands of contact workers have been laboring at the site to get it ready, officials added.
