“Big”

by J. Warren Welch For as long as I can remember I wanted to Make it big. Super big.

Rock. Star. Big.

I wanted to leave a mark.

But it’s in the little things That we truly leave a mark.

The opened door.

The smile at a stranger. The children held.

The friend encouraged.

The time given.

I never made it big And I’m okay with that Because in little ways Every single day I’m learning how to leave a mark.

••• “So I’ve been going to the 76-gas station for a while now. I’ve become friends with the manager and one of the employees. I can’t for the life of me remember the store manager’s name, but boy do I have a story about him today. This morning I was on my way to Hutto and was trying to turn but my power steering went out because I have a leak. So, I pulled in there and went inside to get some power steering fluid. They didn’t have any. I told the manager what was going on and he tossed his car keys on the counter. I didn’t know what was going on. He said take my car and go get what you need. “Tonya, I trust you.” This guy is an amazing human being. I just wanted to share this because he needs to be praised.”
