Wife of ex-Taylor ISD superintendent facing family-violence charge

GEORGETOWN — Deanne Padavil, wife of former Taylor Independent School District Superintendent Devin Padavil, has been charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, according to court records.

She was arrested by Georgetown police Nov. 27, officials said.

She was released from jail Nov. 28 after posting a $500 bond on the Class A misdemeanor charge.

After three years with Taylor ISD, Devan Padavil in July 2023 announced he was leaving for a position as the superintendent of the Georgetown Independent School District. He received the notification from Georgetown ISD that he was the lone finalist for the job while in Cabo, San Lucas, Mexico, getting married to his wife, according to previous reporting by the Press.

James Scherer, Georgetown Independent School District Board of Trustees President, said GISD is aware of the recent situation with Superintendent Padavil calling emergency personnel to support his spouse.

"We kindly request that the privacy of Dr. Padavil and his family be respected during this time," Scherer said. "Mental health is a critical issue that touches many lives, and we are approaching it with compassion and understanding. Georgetown ISD and the board remain confident in Dr. Padavil's leadership, experience and dedication to our students and community."

Padavil said he made the emergency call out of safety for his spouse.

"A 911 call was made out of safety to a loved one, and (first) responders chose to arrest based upon what they observed," Padavil said. "That was a decision out of my control. I am hopeful this resolves quickly. I ask for prayers, privacy and compassion as we navigate this moment in our lives."
