The Hutto Lady Hippos volleyball team opened District 25-6A play with a 3-0 loss to Vista Ridge on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Vista Ridge High School.

The Lady Hippos dropped the first set 25-7 before falling 25-12 in the second. Hutto found its rhythm in the third set and battled point for point, but ultimately came up short in a 25-20 defeat.

Junior outside hitter Ellie Witcher led Hutto offensively with nine kills. Junior right side hitter Lola Posley added four kills, while sophomore outside hitter Victoria Escobedo contributed three.

Hutto responded quickly two days later in the Pflugerville ISD Tournament, bouncing back with a pair of sweeps. The Lady Hippos defeated Converse Judson 2-0 behind Escobedo’s eight kills and Witcher’s seven, then followed with a 2-0 win over Killeen Ellison in which Witcher recorded a match-high 12 kills.

The Lady Hippos closed out the first day of tournament play with a 2-0 loss to Smithson Valley. Witcher once again paced the offense with seven kills, while Posley chipped in five.

With the split results, Hutto moved to 6-6 overall on the season. The Lady Hippos will resume tournament action this weekend as they look to build momentum heading deeper into district competition.
