A man is behind bars after an auto that struck and killed an 81-year-old Taylor pedestrian on a hospital parking lot drove away from the scene, police said.
Staffers at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Taylor, 305 Mallard Lane, rushed from the building to aid James Killough, but he succumbed to his injuries, according to a statement from the Taylor Police Department.
Officers later traced a vehicle to the 2700 block of North Drive and took a man into custody. A portion of North Drive was closed at the time but later reopened.
Jesse Jackson, 43, of Spring, has been charged with first-degree murder, according to the Police Department statement.
He remained in the Williamson County Jail in Georgetown July 24 with no bond set.
The case unfolded after police were called to the hospital parking lot at 10:15 a.m. July 24, where they found Killough suffering from life-threatening wounds.
“Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle,” according to the release, which added the auto “drove away from the scene.”
Police found a vehicle suspected of being involved in the incident and, after talking to the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, took a man into custody.

The fatality remains under investigation by the Police Department with the assistance of the District Attorney’s Office, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and The Williamson County Crime Scene Unit.
Deputies with the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office assisted during the investigation and detention of the suspect, according to the release.
