The Granger Lions varsity football team will look to remain undefeated when they face the Holland Hornets on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at Holland High School.
The Lions are coming off an impressive 42-21 victory over Thorndale last week, while the Hornets fell, 52-27, to Valley Mills.
Granger has leaned heavily on its run game through the first two weeks, led by senior running back Caleb Hobratsch, who has continued to dominate opposing defenses.
That strength could be a key factor against a Hornets defense that has struggled to stop the run, allowing more than 250 rushing yards in each of its first two games.
The Lions also have the ability to strike through the air, with senior quarterback Wyatt Rochner throwing multiple touchdown passes in both games this season. Rochner is also a threat with his legs, capable of extending plays or picking up yards on designed runs.
On defense, Granger will look to tighten up after giving up several big plays that have turned into points for opponents. Caleb and Noah Hobratsch, along with senior linebacker Kael Jackson, have led the way. Jackson scored on a scoop-and-score to seal last week’s win over Thorndale.
The key to the game will likely be Granger’s rushing attack, which has worn down defenses and opened the door for explosive plays.
If the Lions can continue that trend, they should be able to pull away in the second half and secure another double-digit victory over a quality opponent.
Last season, Granger defeated Holland, 34-20.
