Friday night’s football game between Granger and Holland was stopped late in the third quarter after Holland senior Logan Gommert suffered a medical emergency and was airlifted from the field. The Lions still earned the win in the shortened game.

Gommert was initially placed in a neck brace as a precaution. According to Holland head coach J.B. Chaney, a doctor has since allowed him to remove it and is scheduled to undergo an MRI for further evaluation.

The game was halted with Granger leading 42-0. Medical personnel treated Gommert for several minutes before a helicopter arrived, and players from both teams gathered at midfield as he was transported for further care.

Before play was suspended, Granger senior quarterback Wyatt Rochner led the Lions’ fast start by accounting for all six touchdowns. Rochner opened the scoring with a 15-yard run, connected with senior wide receiver Caleb Tucker on a 76-yard pass, and added another long rushing score. He threw three more touchdown passes as Granger built its commanding lead.

With the result, Granger improves to 3-0 and enters a bye week before hosting Bartlett on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m.

Both teams expressed their support for Gommert and the Holland community as they awaited further updates on his condition.
