The Hutto Hippos varsity football team will continue district play against the Manor Mustangs on Friday, Sept. 19, at Hutto High School. The Hippos will look to start district play 2-0 for the first time since 2021.
Hutto is coming off a 63-49 victory over Cedar Ridge, while Manor fell to Harker Heights, 56-0, last week. The Hippos will try to carry their offensive momentum into Friday’s matchup as first-year head coach Eli Reinhart’s new system continues to click.
Senior quarterback Kaden Stefek threw for 449 yards and six touchdowns in the win over
Cedar Ridge. His top targets this season have been junior wide receivers Jaden Fields and Dylan Owens. Fields recorded 187 receiving yards last week, while Owens added 192 yards and two scores.
Hutto will look to exploit a Manor defense that has allowed more than 100 points through two games. The Hippos will also aim for a balanced attack with running back Keilan Chavies leading the ground game and Stefek contributing with his legs after rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown last week.
Defensively, Hutto has shown flashes, but will look for more consistency against a Manor offense that has yet to score in double digits this season. The Hippos are anchored by senior linebacker Brayden Daniels and senior defensive back Carlos Sorto.
Key factors for Hutto will be protecting the football and limiting penalties to avoid a dramatic finish and potential upset. The Hippos will have added motivation after suffering a 43-36 loss to Manor last season.
