The Hutto Hippos varsity football team rolled to a 56-7 win over the Manor Mustangs on Friday, Sept. 19. The victory marked the first time in four years the Hippos have started district play 2-0, improving their overall record to 3-1.
Hutto’s offense stayed red-hot after scoring 63 points and racking up more than 600 yards against Cedar Ridge a week earlier. Senior quarterback Kaden Stefek threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as the Hippos built a 42-0 lead by halftime.
Junior wide receivers Dylan Owens and Jaiden Fields were again Stefek’s top targets, each catching a first-half touchdown. Fields was impressive on both sides of the ball, finishing with two fumble recoveries on defense.
Senior running back Keilan Chavies carried the load after the break, adding a 31-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and an 80-yard score to open the third. He finished with more than 150 rushing yards.
The defense also responded after giving up 49 points to Cedar Ridge. Senior defensive back Carlos Sorto returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0 in the first quarter, marking the third straight game the Hippos have scored on a pick-six.
Sophomore receiver Carson Fields opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown catch from Stefek. Hutto emptied the bench in the fourth quarter, with junior utility player Hunter Frenette scoring on a 12-yard run and freshman Braydon Childs adding an 8-yard touchdown.
Hutto enters a bye week on Friday, Sept. 26, before returning to action against Round Rock Westwood on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
