The city is searching for a new police chief with word Henry Fluck is stepping down after 12 years as Taylor’s top cop.
His final day is Monday, Sept.
22. Meanwhile, Commander Joseph Branson is named as the interim chief until the position is permanently filled. No timeline has been given on permanently filling the role.

“Chief Fluck has been a great asset to our community,” said City Manager Brian LaBorde. “He has invested in the department’s capabilities, created a culture of service and served Taylor with honor.”
Fluck’s career spans nearly half a century. After 24 years with the El Paso Police Department, he became chief of police in Cedar Park in 2000, serving there until taking his present job in Taylor in 2013.
Branson has been a commander with Taylor police since 2015.
“(Fluck’s) experience and knowledge, along with his willingness to mentor me, were invaluable,” Branson said. “He taught me to take each issue one step at a time and to carefully analyze each step of the way when working through issues.”
Though city officials have yet to offer more details about filling Fluck’s vacancy, Branson said his goal is to keep operations smoothly moving.
“I would like to bring stability during this time as we look for our next chief,” Branson said. “I want our department employees, city staff and residents to know that I am here to serve them and that I am approachable and ready to help.”
