The Thrall Tigers varsity football team fell 44-20 to the Troy Trojans on Friday, Sept. 19, dropping to 1-3 on the season.
Thrall kept the game close early, trailing 9-6 after the first quarter, but Troy pulled away in the second with a 70-yard touchdown pass and a 55-yard screen pass for a score to take a 23-6 halftime lead.
Senior quarterback Weston Smiley threw an interception on the first drive of the second half, giving the Trojans a short field that led to another touchdown and a 30-6 advantage. Thrall was outscored 14-0 for the remainder of the third quarter but showed some signs of life with two scores to end the game.
Junior Logan Heselmeyer and senior C.J. Kelm led the way for the Tigers as Heselmeyer had an interception early in the game and Kelm had a rushing touchdown.
The Tigers will look to bounce back when they travel to Johnson City on Friday, Sept.
26, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
