The 19th Annual Bluebonnet Horse Expo takes place Oct. 4, at the Williamson County Expo Center, 5350 Bill Pickett Trail, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The annual educational event gives horse lovers from across Texas and beyond an opportunity to learn about horse training and care while raising money to support the organization’s equine rescue mission.
The Expo will feature numerous clinicians throughout the day as well as the 2025 Rescue Horse Training Challenge competition. During the Challenge, professionals and nonprofessionals showcase their training skills through freestyle competitions and an obstacle course, the culmination of the previous four months of training with their equine partners prior. The Training Challenge horses as well as numerous additional horses will be available for adoption by approved adopters.
This year’s Expo & Challenge is special as it commemorates Bluebonnet’s 20th Anniversary. In the past 20 years, Bluebonnet has taken in more than 1,540 horses and placed more than 1,200 with loving adopters.
So far this year, the organization has taken in 45 horses. This includes eight horses removed by law enforcement agencies due to neglect and eight horses transferred to Bluebonnet from other rescues.
Most horses arrive at Bluebonnet needing veterinary and farrier care, and Bluebonnet has spent more than $70,000 this year on veterinary care alone.
Bluebonnet continues to have 1-3 requests every week to take in horses that require additional funding and resources such as veterinary care and foster homes to properly care for these horses. Our two most urgent requirements continue to be monetary funding and approved foster homes.
Limited sponsorship and vendor opportunities are still available for the event, and the organization needs monetary donations, horse supplies and equipment, and live and silent auction donations. Funds from sponsorships help to defray expenses that go into putting on a great event.
Money raised during the event supports the horses of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society: it pays vet bills, farrier bills, costs of investigating neglect reports, costs of seizing horses, costs of preparing for court, and more. The goal is to pay all necessary expenses with sponsorships — so that all the money raised on the day of the event can go toward helping horses.
Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society is a non-profit organization that helps rescue horses, ponies, and donkeys from negligent and abusive owners. Not only is the event educational, but all funds raised at the event help Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society alleviate the suffering of horses throughout Texas.
