Commissioners approve new parks hire

Moves underway to find more space

GEORGETOWN — Williamson County has a new parks and recreation director and continues to find room for overcrowded government offices until a permanent facility is built.

That’s the latest from the Commissioners Court session Tuesday that saw T.W. Dieckmann hired as the county’s new senior director of parks and recreation. He starts Friday at a salary of $150,000.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey noted the position is supported by succession planning funding within the parks and recreation budget.

Dieckmann will spend three weeks instead of the usual two shadowing outgoing Director Russell Fishbeck.

“I’m OK with changing the policy because the (Williamson County Fair and) Rodeo is during this time period and that’s a specialty thing,” said Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long.

In other business, County Manager Rebecca Clemons highlighted an interim plan to create more office space for overcrowded working conditions, a discussion that picked up from the Sept. 16 Commissioners Court session.

Until the construction of the new justice complex is completed, Williamson County offices are filled to capacity. Clemons is responsible for trying to accommodate departments’ needs and growth while reorganizing office spaces.

Phase one involved relocating some of the county courts and information technology offices.

Phase two includes remodeling at the Lake Creek Annex in Round Rock to make additional room for the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, it will carve out temporary space for potential new hires for the District Attorney’s Office to handle cases in the upcoming 512th state District Court.

“Phase three will carry out work during the summer (of 2026) after the majority of the buildings are emptied by people going to the new administration building,” Clemons said.

She added phase four is in the works.

County Judge Steven Snell thanked Clemons for her efforts.

“I appreciate all your work on it, in trying to work with all the different elected officials to make their operations continue to work well,” he said.

Commissioners meet 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at 710 S. Main St.
