A wild first half that featured seven lead changes was followed by a Waco Christiandominated second half as the Warriors ran past the Rams, 92-47, Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Taylor.
Waco Christian (3-3) outscored St. Mary’s (1-3), 51-14, in the second half.
The Warriors also turned a 33-27 deficit into a 71-33 advantage with a string of 44 unanswered points from the second quarter to the third quarter.
The game had a promising start for the Rams, who took a 13-0 lead with a pair of Steven Reyes touchdown runs. But Waco Christian used a kickoff return for a score, a touchdown run and a two-point kick to seize a 14-13 lead after one quarter of play.
This set the stage for a wild second quarter. Reyes had three touchdown runs in the frame – each giving St. Mary’s the lead after the opposition took it.
Down 33-27 right before halftime, the Warriors used a pair of touchdown runs and a two-point kick to seize a 41-33 lead at the break.
The touchdown right before halftime put an end to a first half that featured seven lead changes, including six in the second quarter.
The third quarter belonged to Waco Christian, who scored the first 30 points of the frame on two touchdown passes, two touchdown runs and a trio of two-point kicks.
Ridge Lossen scored on a 30-yard run to trim the Rams’ deficit to 71-40, but a kickoff return for a score and another conversion kick increased the Warriors’ lead to 79-40.
Lossen added another touchdown run, but Waco Christian scored two more touchdown runs to put the game away late in the third on the 45-point mercy rule.
Reyes (23 carries, 232 yards, five TDs) and Lossen (10 carries, 139 yards, two TDs) led the way for St. Mary’s.
