Taylor Rodeo Association rustles up awards

Taylor Rodeo Association rustles up awards
The Cowboy Professional Rodeo Association names the Taylor Rodeo Association as the No. 1 large indoor rodeo.

The Taylor Rodeo Association is earning its spurs with two recent accolades.

For the second year in a row, the association was lauded for paying contestants higher than any of the other 150 rodeos under the Cowboy Professional Rodeo Association umbrella, officials said.

The CPRA also honored the association for holding the largest indoor rodeo, which took place July 18 and July 19 in the Williamson County Expo Center.

The July event also marked the association’s 75th anniversary.

President Tim Sims and his wife, Chris, attended the CPRA finals in Hempstead the last weekend of September, where the awards were announced.

“I just think it’s a pretty big honor for two No. 1s in a row,” Chris Sims said.

The Taylor Rodeo beat out Cedar Park Rodeo as No. 1 for large indoor rodeo.

“This is a really big deal,” Tim Sims said.

Cedar Park holds its rodeo in the “huge, air-conditioned” H-E-B Center.

“If we had a building like that, there’s no telling what we could do,” Sims said.

While the Williamson County Exposition Center may not have air conditioning, the Taylor Rodeo must be doing something right, he added.

“Going to the finals, getting these awards, this has just been a big honor to me,” Sims said.

Chris Sims credits the Taylor community and the rodeo sponsors for the local event’s continued success. “Their support is

amazing,” he said.

The association has also donated $200,000 in scholarships to area students since 2022.
