The Granger Lions football team stayed red hot on Friday, Oct. 24, with a 58-14 win over the Somerville Yeguas.
The Lions improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in district play.
Senior quarterback Wyatt Rochner opened the scoring with a 30-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
Rochner then connected with senior wide receiver Ryder Bice for another touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0.
Bice was taken to a local hospital after collapsing a few plays later but was released and sent home a few hours later.
Senior running back Caleb Hobratsch broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run on the next drive, giving Granger a 22-0 lead with 1:40 left in the first quarter.
The Lions immediately regained possession on the ensuing kickoff after recovering a pooch kick, leading to a 25-yard rushing touchdown by Dayton Knippa that made it 29-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Rochner scored his second rushing touchdown of the night on a 40-yard run early in the second quarter to push the lead to 37-0.
Somerville responded with its first touchdown of the game, cutting the deficit to 37-6 with 6:25 remaining in the half.
Rochner threw his fourth touchdown of the night on a 15-yard pass to Noah Hobratsch just before halftime, giving Granger a 44-6 lead.
Knippa added his second rushing touchdown of the night in the second half, and senior Joseph Sifuentes hauled in a 45-yard jet sweep from Rochner to cap off the scoring.
With the win, Granger clinched at least a share of the district championship and can secure the outright title with a victory over Burton on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. at Burton High School.
