Hutto Co-op lands office for Europe’s ASML

Company could add 100 jobs

HUTTO — While all eyes have been on South Korea when it comes to semiconductor industry players coming to East Williamson County, Hutto’s latest catch is a European powerhouse that will bring 100 jobs to the city.

ASML Holding NV has snatched up 35,000 square feet in the new 70,000-square-foot office building at the Hutto Co-op District, a complex that includes City Hall, the library, several restaurants and other small businesses, according to an announcement from the city.

The Dutch semiconductor industry supplier provides lithographic technology to make advanced chips in Europe, the U.S. and Asia and counts numerous companies including Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. among its clients.

The Hutto location on U.S. 79 puts ASML just nine miles from the Taylor campus of Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

“This is a great complement to the Prologis and Skybox Data Center campus, spanning over 220 acres, and the new Tesla industrial building covering 35,000 square feet,” said Mayor Mike Snyder in a written statement. “We are a growing community with 54 languages spoken, and the diversity of career opportunities, people and cultures in Hutto has helped make this a highly desirable location for companies seeking to establish a footprint or expand their operations in Central Texas.”

The four-story office and retail building was built speculatively by developer MA Partners to capitalize on the rapidly growing economic forces bringing companies and more population to Hutto, a city with more than 46,000 residents.

Plans for the 35-acre district include a hotel and apartments built in several phases.

“We are thrilled that ASML has chosen Hutto and the Co-Op District as a home for its continued innovative work in the semiconductor industry,” said MA Partners’ Bob Wunsch. “Our goal is to create a mixed-use destination that features dining, shopping, entertainment, workspace and residences – all within one truly authentic Hutto setting.”

The U.S. representative for ASML could not be reached for comment.

Job postings on ASML’s website indicate just four current openings in Texas including three in Austin and one in Richardson. It is not clear when hiring will begin. Officials said the Hutto site is expected to employ up to 100.

The Dutch company had nearly $33 billion in sales last year and is the largest publicly traded company by market capitalization in the European Union with a market cap of more than $416 billion based on the closing share price Oct. 31.

Founded in 1984, ASML provides the tools and services to mass produce patterns on the silicon used in making semiconductors.

The company will take 32,442 square feet in the building and 2,158 square feet on the rooftop terrace.

There is 17,000 square feet of rentable office space left on the fourth floor and 9,800 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, according to MA Partners. A sixstory, 450-space parking garage is next door.

While the four grain silos from the co-op founded for areas farmers in 1937 still stand at the site as a historic reminder, the gleaming glass office building is a modern twist for the city, which has nearly doubled in population in the last 10 years.

Numerous companies in the semiconductor industry, data centers to drive artificial-intelligence applications and manufacturers of data servers are all flocking to the area.

Some of them, like ASML, are looking for proximity to Samsung’s Taylor campus including some 145 South Korean suppliers, according to county economic develop officials.

We are thrilled that ASML has chosen Hutto and the Co-Op District as a home for its continued innovative work in the semiconductor industry.”
