Spend a day on the farm to fight food insecurity

Experience old-time days down on the farm as part of an event benefitting programs keeping the community fed, sponsors said.

Heritage Farm Day is right around the corner, they add.

It’s a chance for all ages to experience historic activities and skills while assisting the less fortunate in the Taylor area.

The event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the historic Lutonsky Farm, 405 CR 1900.

Admission is free, but a “hearty” chuckwagon meal cooked on-site is $12 per person.

Proceeds from the chuckwagon lunch go to the Greater Taylor Community Foundation’s Food Insecurity Council.

Space is limited and registration is encouraged. Meals also must be reserved. To sign up, visit eventbrite.com/e/ heritage-farm-day-tickets- 1721368201629.

According to its website, the council works “to advance equitable food access, preserve local farms and strengthen community resilience through education, collaboration and stewardship.”

The Lutonsky Farm was established more than 100 years ago, organizers said. Visitors can tour the original farmhouse and take part in interactive agrarian activities using traditional tools and skills.

Children can enjoy farm-themed games, crafts and discovery zones.

Educational stations will offer chances to learn about soil health, seed saving and local food systems.

“Heritage Farm Day is a celebration of where we’ve been and where we’re going,” said Diana Phillips, foundation president. “It’s a chance to reconnect with the land, explore hands-on traditions and share a meal that reflects our community’s strength and spirit.”
