COUPLAND — Two council members and the mayor ran unopposed in the Nov. 4 election.
Karen Marosko and Carolyn Haverland will remain as alderwomen and Russell Schmidt stays as mayor, all with two-year terms.
In other business, the city has contracted with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to have a deputy assigned specifically to Coupland on an as-needed basis.
According to Schmidt, “A deputy will soon be out, enforcing traffic laws. The days and the hours will vary.” City Council meetings are 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Coupland Volunteer Fire Department, 403 FM 1466.
National Night Out
Coupland observed National Night Out Oct. 7 on the grounds of the historic train depot. Residents enjoyed hot dogs and homemade cookies. Speakers included Williamson County Precinct 4 Constable Paul Leal, Trey Hewtty of the Williamson County Office of Emergency Management, and representatives of the Sheriff’s Office and the Emergency Services District.
Coupland School Coupland School celebrated Homecoming Sept.
29Oct3withdress 29-Oct. dressup days, sports day, twin day, jersey day, spirit day and pajama day. Harvest Festival was held Oct. 18 with games, bounce houses, food, a raffle and a live auction. The festival is the PTA’s biggest fundraiser and helps teachers, staff and students, organizers said.
Oct. 20 marked the beam signing at the new Junior High/High School.
Guests also toured the campus in addition to signing a ceremonial beam that will become part of the structure.

St. Peter’s Church of Coupland
St. Peter’s Church of Copeland, 108 Wathen St., will hold a free seniors’ annual Thanksgiving luncheon Nov. 18 with turkey, dressing, sides, rolls and dessert.

The Hanging of the Greens will occur during a special service Nov.
30. The congregation will celebrate the first day of Advent by decorating the church for Christmas.

New Sweden Lutheran Church This year, New Sweden’s annual God & Country Celebration honoring veterans was moved to Nov. 9.



The celebration started with a hot dog/ hamburger meal, followed by the program. The evening ended with an ice-cream social.
Thanksgiving Eve service is 7 p.m. Nov. 26.
The 150th anniversary of the church will be April 26. Planning meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month after church service.

The upcoming class will be wreath making at 7 p.m. Nov. 19.
The Delights of December Christmas gathering is Dec. 20 and will include a meal.

Type Church
Type Church welcomes a new pastor, Jeff Pekar. Pekar — who grew up in the church — left to serve in the military
and has retired from active service. He holds a degree in theology and Christian counseling from Liberty University.
He is pursuing a certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors and is studying New Testament Greek. He and his wife, Meghein, have three children: Lillien, Reighein and Braden.
Members have expressed their gratitude to the former pastor, the Rev. Ryan Evans, his wife, Kelly, and their three children for their dedication to the church.

Art display at Citizens National Bank
Coupland artist Letitia Eldredge said attendance was “bustling” during the Coupland Community Art Event Sept. 18 in conjunction with Citizens National Bank’s 125th Year Celebration Day.
“Works by local artists were displayed and there were refreshments, including anniversary cookies,” she said.
Her works and the art of Jim Huntington, Peter Julian and Wells Mason were exhibited.
Teenager Elijah Dodson presented a suite of small blackand- white character drawings.
“He’s already a phenomenal artist at just 14 years old,” said Machelle Sandbulte of the bank.
The display extends over the holidays at the financial institution, 102 Hoxie St.
