A Conroe woman will spend at least 20 years in prison after two of her children were killed in an accident in which she was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Christina Hejl, 36, pled guilty to five felony charges Monday in a Williamson County Court-of-Law. Her sentence is 40 years in prison, but Hejl is required to spend at least half of the sentence behind bars before she is eligible for parole.
In March, Hejl was traveling east on FM 1331 in eastern Williamson County with her five children when the minivan she drove traveled off the roadway while navigating a curve. Two of her children were ejected from the vehicle and were both pronounced dead at the scene.
A third child was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, including broken ribs and a brain injury. The other two children had non-life-threatening injuries.
Hejl was found to have a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. Her charges include two counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and two counts of endangering a child.
