KRXT brings in choirs to spread cheer
To help get the community in the holiday mood, Taylor’s own KRXT 98.5 radio station has recorded area school and adult performers singing Yuletide songs for its “12 Days of Christmas Choirs.”
The selections will air daily from Monday until 5 p.m. Dec. 20.
“We’re doing it at that time to hopefully put people in the Christmas spirit as they’re driving home (from work),” said Steve Laukhuf, co-owner and morning DJ at KRXT.
Laukhuf spread the word about the Christmas idea via the airwaves and said the community soon responded.
“I got to thinking about what we could do as a station to put people in a good mood (for Christmas)… And we came up with this idea of a ‘12 Days of Christmas Choirs,’” Laukhuf said.
The musical festivities will begin with Taylor’s St. Mary’s Catholic School faculty and parents. St. Mary’s students will sing a few days later.
“We’re so excited that our choirs will be featured on KRXT in the coming weeks,” school officials said Dec. 3 on St. Mary’s Facebook page.
Student Council members from the Coupland Independent School District also recorded songs led by their music teacher Kelsey Kimble.
“Our Student Council was honored and privileged to be a part of everyone’s holiday season,” said Coupland ISD Principal Brian Booker.
The grand finale of KRXT’s local programming will be the song the “Twelve Days of Christmas” sung by the Rockdale Rotary Club.
“We want to highlight what their organization accomplished this year,” Laukhuf said.
In the future, the “Twelve Days of Christmas” is going to be the station’s marquee tune to recognize the hard work and efforts of a local charity.
KRXT plans to put all of the recordings together and use them to launch its Christmas programming at noon on Christmas Eve.
“You’re going to hear Christmas songs, some of them you’ll know, some of them not so much,” Laukhuf said.
Most of the groups were recorded in the McCrory-Timmerman building, 201 N. Main St., on the building’s second floor. The radio station is also housed there.
“The acoustics are so amazing that it really will give you goosebumps,” Laukhuf said.
