HUTTO — The Texas State Technical College Foundation accepted a $10,000 financial gift from Skybox Critical Operations dedicated to students training in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
With data centers booming in Williamson County, HVAC technicians, installers and maintenance specialists play critical roles in maintaining humidity controls, air filtration, energy efficiency and more, officials said.
The TSTC Foundation provides fundraising and support for the college.
Skybox Critical Operations, an affiliate of Skybox Datacenters, partners with companies to provide secure, reliable data-center solutions by strengthening the technical workforce and supporting students, according to a news release.
“Being able to connect with the TSTC Foundation allowed us to both give back to the community and also fill jobs here in Hutto and in Austin,” said Daniel Jacob, manager of customer situations and strategic programs for Skybox. “We’re just really excited to continue to foster this relationship.”
Presented during a Dec. 9 ceremony, the $10,000 donation will be distributed among 10 HVAC students at TSTC to help cover tuition and other education-related expenses.
Kay Lehman, HVAC program team lead at TSTC, said they are grateful to Skybox for investing in the vocational learners.
“This scholarship helps students move into good-paying jobs while supporting the workforce needs of our region’s data centers,” Lehman said in a previous release. HVAC is a handson technical program at TSTC that prepares students for careers in commercial, industrial and residential climate control, TSTC officials said.
