Highway gunfire lands 4 in hot water with ICE, deputies Suspects' car chased down U.S. 79
Williamson County deputies put the brakes on four men of interest to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after one reportedly fired a gun while standing in a moving car’s sunroof on U.S. 79 early Monday.
The car, headed east from Hutto, was driven by an associate of the man suspected of shooting the firearm and was chased by deputies to Taylor’s city limits shortly after 5 a.m., investigators said.
No persons or vehicles were hit by gunfire during the pursuit, officials said.
Benjamin Figuerebo Tortolero, 24, is charged with disorderly conductdisplaying a weapon, unlawful carry of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, according to records.
He remained in the Williamson County Jail in Georgetown on Tuesday. Bond was not available by press deadline.
County officials said he is also an ICE detainee, but his country of origin was not disclosed.
The case began after deputies responded to a call about shots fired from a sedan on 79 in Hutto. Deputies caught up to the vehicle near CR 110 and started to chase it.
The sedan came to a stop inside the Taylor city limits and Figuerebo and the other three occupants were detained.
Law officers said they found suspected narcotics in the vehicle.

The other three in the car, who were not identified, were turned over to ICE agents.
A Williamson County official said the Sheriff’s Office will continue to cooperate with ICE “to protect the safety of its communities.”
