Thrall seniors celebrate 1,000-point milestone

Thrall seniors celebrate 1,000-point milestone

THRALL — Two Thrall High School seniors celebrated a rare statistical milestone Tuesday after the Tigerettes defeated Lexington, 55-22, in the Tiger gym.

Seniors Neveah Irvin and Kinley Hoffman were recognized following the game for each surpassing 1,000 career points. Both athletes have been members of the varsity squad since their freshman year, contributing to multiple deep postseason runs, including regional appearances in 2023 and 2024.

Tigerette head coach Corey Cunningham praised the duo not only for their scoring, but for their impact on the program’s culture.

“Yes, it’s an outstanding mark. We’re proud to have them on our team and proud for what they do for our team,” Cunningham said. “The amazing thing is they’re very unselfish players. They’re very team-oriented, they’re huge for our team. Our team looks to them for leadership and they come through.”

Hoffman, who serves as the team’s primary ball-handler, credited her support system for the achievement.

“It’s very exciting just because of all the hard work and the different girls I’ve worked with,” Hoffman said. “My family has really supported me through my four years. It’s really just rewarding to see all the hard work come together and actually pay off.”

Cunningham described Hoffman as the team’s “floor general,” noting her vital role in directing the offense.

For Irvin, the milestone marks a successful comeback following a significant injury. Her junior season was cut short after she suffered a broken leg during a game in Rockdale.

“It means a lot to have that coaching staff, friendship, family bond and everything to get confidence back up,” Irvin said. “So, I’m thankful.”

Irvin continues a family legacy within the program. Her mother, Tracy, was a leader on the 199293 team that secured the school’s first-ever state tournament appearance. Cunningham noted that Irvin’s defensive presence and rebounding remain “rock solid” anchors for the current roster.

With a playoff berth already clinched, the Tigerettes turn their attention to the final week of the regular season. The team traveled to Rockdale on Friday before hosting district leader Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 6:15 p.m. for the season finale.
