Authorities are waiting to confer with the family of a contractor who died at Taylor’s Samsung Austin Semiconductor campus before releasing any new details.

The mishap Feb. 11 claimed the life of a third-party vendor working on ventilation and cooling systems, a company official said.

Williamson County Death Investigator Ruben Leal said Friday he is waiting to contact the deceased’s family in South Korea before releasing new information in the case.

When the incident was reported Wednesday morning, Samsung and community emergency responders, including Taylor police and fire departments, rushed to the scene and took fast action, a company spokeswoman said.

“Samsung and all on-site parties are cooperating fully with local authorities and regulatory agencies as they conduct a thorough investigation into what happened,” Michele Glaze, Samsung’s senior director of communications, said at

the time. Like Leal, Glaze noted out of respect for the family and the integrity of the investigation, the company is not sharing additional information for now.

“Safety is our highest priority, and we are committed to understanding the circumstances surrounding this incident. We will continue to provide support to our employees and the broader workplace community,” Glaze earlier told the Taylor Press.

In November 2021, the South Korean tech giant announced it was coming to Taylor with an initial investment of $17 billion.

Officials said the foundry is expected to go online this year and eventually could employ up to 1,500 to 1,800 full-time workers.

Thousands of contract workers have been employed at the site since construction began, officials added.
