The Taylor Ducks varsity baseball team went 1-3 over the weekend in the Rosebud-Lott Tournament and fell to Lexington on Monday, Feb. 24.
Rosebud- Lott Tournament
The Ducks opened the tournament with a 5-1 loss to Rockdale, surrendering four runs in the first inning and struggling to generate offense the rest of the way.
Taylor’s sole run came in the top of the first when junior Mason Sunvision scored on an error. Julian Gomez took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four.
The Ducks then fell to host Rosebud-Lott, 6-5, as the Cougars scored in the bottom of the final inning to secure a walk-off win.
Rosebud-Lott strung together three consecutive singles in the final frame, with the last hit driving in the winning run. Taylor did not record an RBI, scoring its five runs on errors, wild pitches or walks. Sophomore utility player Tayden Talley took the loss after pitching four innings and giving up six runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
Offensive struggles continued in a 16-0 loss to Little River Academy. The Ducks managed just one hit, a single from designated hitter Brayden Ochoa.
Taylor’s pitching staff allowed nine runs in the fifth inning as the game slipped away. Braedon Valdez was charged with the loss, throwing three innings and allowing four runs while striking out four.
The Ducks earned their lone win of the tournament with a 4-3 victory over Teague. Taylor scored all four runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on the rest of the way.
Ochoa delivered an RBI single in the opening frame, and Valdez added a two-run single that resulted in three runs after an error. Sunvision earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Lexington
The Ducks struggled against the Eagles in a 7-2 loss on Monday, Feb. 24. Taylor finished with six hits and multiple scoring opportunities but was unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.
Valdez took the loss, pitching four innings and allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two.
Taylor dropped to 2-4 overall and will return to action at the Lago Vista Tournament this weekend.
