GEORGETOWN — County commissioners have set a vote for next month on a tax abatement for a tech company poised to become Taylor’s second-largest employer after Samsung Austin Semiconductor.
In other business during a meeting Tuesday of the Williamson County Commissioners Court, members on the dais honored the Williamson County Emergency Communications department after it became the first in Texas to be designated as a Tri-ACE, or Accredited Center for Excellence, for medical, fire and police dispatch.
The tax abatement under consideration is for a property operated by Compal USA Technology Inc. in Georgetown. A possible vote is April 4.
The related Compal facility planned for Taylor could employ up to 900 workers, largely from the community, officials have said.
The Taiwanese company under the umbrella of Compal Electronics Inc. will make racks for computer servers that are used in data centers. The company’s clients include big-tech names such as Apple, Google parent Alphabet Inc. and Round Rock’s Dell Technologies.
According to a Compal official, Taylor and the Taylor Economic Development Corp. have already provided tax breaks, rebates and grants to the company in exchange for Compal’s commitment to creating jobs and providing internships and training.
Meanwhile, county emergency communications supervisor Rebecca Christiansen said it was exciting to work so hard for many years and to receive the Tri-ACE certification, but she added it was more important to provide stellar service.
“(The community) can call 911 knowing that they’re going to get the best service possible … knowing if they truly have an emergency, they’re going to get the care they need,” Christiansen said.
Commissioners next meet 9:30 a.m. March 10 at 710 S. Main St.
