BREMOND — The Granger Lions varsity baseball team rolled to a 16-0, five-inning run-rule victory over the Bremond Tigers on Tuesday, March 17, at Bremond High School.
Granger wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for eight runs in the first inning to take early control. The Lions capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues to build a commanding lead they would
not relinquish. Cohen Repa and Dayton Knippa paced the offense, combining to go 5-for-6 at the plate with three RBIs each. Nicholas Blane and Lane Franke also contributed to the offensive surge.
The Lions opened the scoring with an RBI double from Blane and later added a run on an error to make it 2-0. Repa followed with a two-RBI single, and Franke added an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0.
Blane finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Franke went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Granger capped the inning with three additional runs, aided by another Bremond error, pushing the lead to 8-0.
On the mound, Tre Castillo delivered a dominant performance.
The right-hander threw a complete-game one-hitter over five innings, striking out 13 and not allowing a run. Castillo also contributed offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Lions continued to add on in the second inning, when Knippa drove in two runs with a single to make it 10-0. Granger added another run in the third on a groundout before putting the game away with five more runs in the fifth inning to secure the runrule victory.
With the win, Granger improved to 2-1 in district play, with its only loss coming against Thorndale.
The Lions returned to action Friday against Chilton and will travel to face Holland on March 24 at 7 p.m. as they look to build momentum in district play.
