Spring Break fun with Hutto’s Touch-A-Truck

HUTTO — The city’s fifth annual Touch-a-Truck turnout revved up with an estimated 1,500 visitors, exceeding last year’s attendance, officials said.

Hutto Parks and Recreation Director Jeff White said the event has steadily grown in size and participation.

In addition to the main attraction of trucks and tractors, the March 18 event at Adam Orgain Park, 1001 CR 137, included music and two bounce houses.

A line of families was turned away from viewing an emergency rescue helicopter as it took flight after the first two hours of the fifth annual Touch-A-Truck event to respond to an actual emergency.

Kids of all ages toured school buses, ogled law-enforcement and emergency-services vehicles including a helicopter, and got to say “hot dog!” when viewing the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.

Oncor Electric Delivery brought trucks with cherry-pickers. Though no one was allowed up in the air, workers showed off their tools and gear while handing out plastic hard hats and coloring books to children.

“Touch-a-Truck is all about getting the community to come out on their Spring Break and engage with the city and our community partners like Hutto Fire and Rescue,” said city spokeswoman Abby Fenton. “It’s a good time for all of our community partners and local businesses to come together and meet with the community.”

Hutto resident August Martinez, 2, proudly wears the hard hat he received from Oncor Electric Delivery at the fifth annual Touch-A-Truck event, but when asked about his favorite vehicle, he said it was the school bus.
