The shuttered Applebee’s Grill & Bar at 103 N.W. Carlos G. Parker Blvd. could be transitioning to a Chick-fil-A pending City Council approval.
The Taylor Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday recommended authorizing the project.
In other planning news, the commission decided not to support a plat design from Oncor Electric Delivery for a switch station.
Meanwhile, the potential Chick-fil-A site requires a special-use permit for a drive- thru feature, officials said. The layout shows there will be no direct access from Parker or from North Main Street.
The only entry is from the Walmart Supercenter parking lot.
The council must still OK the application for the special-use permit submitted by Matthew Walls, project manager for Pape-Dawson Engineers.
Oncor substation sees more setbacks
The commission voted to recommend the council not approve Oncor’s application for a minor plat design proposed for the Oncor Muscovy Switch on U.S. 79.
City staff said the plat did not meet some of the minimum standards of the Land Development Code and Engineering Manual.
Council approved the zoning for the switch station itself at its March 26 meeting after the utility company increased the fencing to better screen the facility from public view. The issue of where the new transmission lines associated with the station will be routed remains undecided.
Several community members have appeared at recent council meetings to ask that the lines be rerouted around the city.
