RIDING FOR A CAUSE
After pedaling more than 30 times through Austin since 1995, The Rosedale School Foundation’s biking fundraiser has moved to Taylor.
Although no Rosedale student lives in Taylor, foundation Executive Director Brian Henry said the city has a lot going for it.
“Although Rosedale School is in Austin, riders value the opportunity to cycle on beautiful, safe, open roads,” Henry said. “Taylor is the perfect location for this.”
Many cyclists, including Austinite David Elliott, were pleased to see the 32nd Annual Rosedale Ride recently take place in Murphy Park.
“I was glad to see it moved out here with more bikefriendly areas,” Elliott said. “It’s been years since I’ve ridden in Taylor, Granger or Thrall.”
Elliott, who was joined by his friend Randy Linder, has participated in the Rosedale Ride for seven years.
Linder has participated in every ride since 2007.
“I’ve done a lot of riding, but not in this area,” Linder said. “I love the camaraderie and it’s for a good cause. It’s also the first big spring ride of the year.”
The Rosedale School, which is part of the Austin Independent School District, serves students with complex medical or developmental needs.
Learners range from ages 3-22.
According to Rosedale Foundation officials, there were 536 riders who participated in the event. The event also raised more than $200,000.
