GIVE BACK WITH BUS CLEANING
Trading in their sports equipment for buckets, soap and hoses, Coupland Independent School District student-athletes came together to wash school buses ahead of the first day of classes.
Athletes from across the district’s sports programs gathered Aug. 6 for the service project as the district prepared to welcome students back to classes Aug. 11.
New this academic year, Coupland ISD is opening the combined Coupland Junior High and Senior High School. Previously, the district served students through middle school.
The district’s last high school closed in the 1940s.
Athletic director and head football coach Kyle Rinderknecht said bringing the athletes together to clean the buses allowed the pupils to give back to the community.
“We’re trying to show the community that we appreciate it by giving back to them and coming up with ideas,” Rinderknecht said. “This is kind of our kickoff of our community service for the new athletic program.”
The coach said the event also gave student- athletes the opportunity to display their work ethic.
“The coaches see the kids work hard every day in practice, but this is a chance when we’re out in the community, when we’re out in front of teachers here, that the kids get to show everyone else that they have great character and work ethic,” he said.
