Thrall defeats area rival Thorndale, 3-1

The Thrall Tigerettes varsity volleyball team picked up a big rivalry victory Tuesday, Sept. 1, defeating Thorndale 3-1 at Thrall High School.

Thrall came out strong and took the first two sets, winning 25-23 and 25-19. Thorndale responded in the third set with a 25-19 victory, but the Tigerettes regained control in the fourth set and held on for a 25-23 win to close out the match.

The victory continues a strong stretch for Thrall, which has shown improvement throughout the early part of the season. The Tigerettes entered Thursday’s matchup with Smithville holding a 14-11 record.

Thrall is also coming off a successful weekend at the Wildcat Classic in Elgin, where the Tigerettes picked up three victories against Smithville, De Valle and Pasadena Memorial.

Thrall was named the bronze bracket champion.

With district play approaching, Thrall will look to carry its recent momentum into the start of league competition. The Tigerettes will open district play against Lexington at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Lexington High School.
