COUPLAND — A third-grade Coupland Independent School District student died Tuesday evening in a vehicle crash on Texas 95 at FM 1660, officials announced in a social media post.
Counseling and grief services are available for pupils struggling with the news, the district said.
“I know dealing with the loss of one of our students will be hard. I also want you to know that the teachers and staff will do everything we can to support anyone in the Cowboy family that is struggling during this time of grief,” Superintendent Earl Parcell said in a prepared statement Wednesday.
The student has not been identified.
The highway was closed Sept. 1 in both directions following the crash and was cleared at 9:36 p.m., according to a post from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Other agencies responding to the accident, which occurred late Tuesday afternoon, included Williamson County Emergency Medical Services, the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and fire services.
Investigators have declined to release any further details on the tragedy.
For those who want help addressing the “emotions, concerns and questions” for students and others in the wake of the accident, Parcell said the district has a School Crisis Team that includes support services from neighboring school districts as well as Education Service Center at Region 13.
The school district also has counselors, the online letter to parents and caregivers noted.
