HUTTO SIGNS BEAM FOR SECOND HIGH SCHOOL

HUTTO SIGNS BEAM FOR SECOND HIGH SCHOOL

Creekside High opens next year

HUTTO — Educators, students and residents gathered at the construction site of Hutto Independent School District’s newest campus to leave their mark on the beam that will become part of the frame of Creekside High School.

Superintendent Jeni Neatherlin, school board trustees and Creekside Principal Meagan Coronado participated in the Oct.

15 ceremony for the district’s second high school.

“The names and messages written on that beam may eventually be hidden behind walls, but they’ll remain part of the school for generations to come. Just as the beam will help hold up the building, our community continues to lift up Hutto ISD students,” district officials said in a Facebook post.

The tradition of signing a beam — often called a “topping out” or “topping off” — is a ceremony marking the final or highest structure on an edifice.

Creekside, 301 Destiny Lane, was the former Ninth Grade Center. The project to enlarge and upgrade began June 2025 as part of a voter-approved $522 million bond package.

The new school is slated to open in August for the 2027-28 academic year.

Creekside’s new design can accommodate 2,400 students, an increase of 1,400 from the Ninth Grade Center’s original capacity, officials said.

The three-story main structure will feature a public welcome center and expanded academic wings, including one specifically for the career and technical education department, officials said.

The school’s new athletics facility will include a field house, a weight room and a 2,000-capacity competition gym.

Creekside will also add a detached 800seat auditorium and performing arts center.

In a related matter, administrators recently noted Hutto ISD enrollment has slowed down based on previous projections.
