A $7 million federal investment for a planned road connection from FM 3349 to Texas 95 south of Taylor will help address the county’s expanding transportation needs, officials said.
The new connection will complete Corridor A2 between 3349 and 95 while improving safety, reducing congestion and strengthening east-west connectivity.
It will also provide an alternative route for freight traffic traveling on U.S. 79, administrators said.
Rep. Pete Sessions of the 17th Congressional District, credited as being instrumental in securing the funding, recently announced the investment in Williamson County’s transportation infrastructure in conjunction with County Judge Steven Snell and Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles.
“Securing this $7 million is part of our continued commitment to preparing Williamson County for the future,” said Sessions in a release. “By working together and investing in transportation infrastructure, we are supporting job growth, strengthening our communities and ensuring Williamson County is ready for the opportunities ahead.”
County officials emphasized the importance of federal, state, county and city partnerships to advance transportation improvements, citing Williamson County’s rise in new residents and industrial development as reasons to prepare for future road and infrastructure needs.
“Williamson County continues to experience tremendous population growth, and that means we must plan today for the transportation needs of tomorrow,” Snell said. “As more families and businesses make Williamson County their home, investments in our road infrastructure are essential to improving mobility, supporting economic development and keeping our communities connected.”
Corridor A2 is part of Williamson County’s Long-Range Transportation Plan to enhance roadway safety and mobility across the region.
Officials said the project allows for future roadway expansion.
“Eastern Williamson County is growing rapidly, and projects like this are critical to keeping up with that growth,” Boles said. “By continuing to invest in our transportation infrastructure, we are creating safer, more efficient connections for residents, businesses and first responders while preparing our communities for the future.”
A timeline was not provided for the Corridor A2 project.
The project was announced in spring 2019 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held June 2025.
