HUTTO — Hutto ISD has announced the hiring of David Salyer as the new head coach of the Hippos wrestling program. He replaces Matt Leonard, who recently departed for a coaching position at Cedar Ridge High School.
Salyer brings 24 years of coaching experience to the role and arrives from A&M Consolidated High School, where he led the wrestling program for the past 11 years. During his time there, he coached 20 state placers and guided the team to four state championships, establishing one of the premier wrestling programs in the region.
His arrival marks a new chapter for an already strong Hutto program. The Hippos sent seven athletes to the regional tournament this past season and celebrated a historic milestone when Abigail Gallardo became the first girls’ wrestler in school history to qualify for the UIL State Wrestling Championships.
