After a weather delay, the Taylor Ducks varsity football team clenched their third straight win in a matchup against the Elgin Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 11 at Taylor High School.
The Ducks gained momentum quickly in the first quarter with a touchdown by senior running back Eric Walker in the fourth minute.
Five minutes later, junior running back Tayden Talley put himself on the board with a 49 yard running touchdown and brought the Ducks 15-0.
Just before the second quarter, freshman running back JC Keller scored the first Wildcat touchdown of the night.
The Wildcats found their stride by the second quarter, scoring the lone touchdown in the period and brought the score to 15-6 heading into halftime.
The Ducks didn’t stay quiet for long though, as in the third quarter sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Caldwell caught a pass from junior quarterback Johnny Guzman at the 38-yard line and ran it untouched into the endzone. Three minutes later, Caldwell repeated this move during a third down snap and brought the Ducks to 29-13.
Walker would continue his first quarter success later through a handoff from Guzman at the 6th yard line, bringing Taylor 36-13.
The Wildcats finished scoring for the night with an endzone reception by sophomore running back Kelly Wendo, bringing the final score to 36-19 and a Duck victory.
Taylor now looks to play a road game against Northeast Early College on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
