The Hutto Hippos varsity football team defeated the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs 64-21 in their first meeting since 2023 on Friday, Sept. 11.
The visiting Hippos outscored the Bulldawgs 16-7 in the first quarter before silencing them 21-0 in the second quarter, bringing the score to 37-7 at halftime.
Copperas Cove regrouped and outscored the Hippos 14-13 in the third quarter but could not keep get through the Hutto defense and did not score for the remainder of the night. The fourth quarter saw two touchdowns for the Hippos, which brought the final score to 64-21.
This is the second loss in a row for Copperas Cove and brings their record to 1-2.
The Hutto Hippos look to continue their victory streak with a home matchup against Temple High School on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
