COLLEGE STATION — The Hutto Hippos varsity 7-on-7 football team competed in the Division I state championships this past weekend in College Station, finishing 0-3 in pool play before falling in the consolation bracket.

Hutto opened pool play with a narrow 25-24 loss to Argyle, followed by a 32-25 defeat to PSJA North. The Hippos wrapped up pool play with a 27-21 loss to Klein. In the consolation bracket, Hutto was eliminated after a 35-26 loss to Princeton. Grand Oaks won the consolation bracket, while The Woodlands took home the state title.

The Hippos’ 20-player roster featured several key returners, including wide receiver Jaiden Fields, quarterback Kaden Stefek, utility player Dylan Owens and running back Keilan Chavies — all expected to play major roles in the upcoming 2025-26 football season.

Hutto will be under first-year head coach Eli Reinhart, who will look to navigate the Hippos to their first postseason appearance in four years.
